In His Honor (1970)

In late February 1970, Dr. Von Braun was named NASA's Deputy Associate Administrator for Planning at NASA Headquarters in Washington. Prior to his departure, an estimated 5,000 Huntsvillians including state and local dignitaries gathered to honor Dr. Von Braun's years of service to the Army and the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. Part of the events included unveiling a plaque in his honor. Shown here with Dr. Von Braun and his family are U.S. Senator John Sparkman, left, and Alabama Governor Albert Brewer.
