Bidding Farewell (1970)

Dr. Von Braun left Huntsville, Alabama, in late February 1970. He and his family moved to Washington where he became Deputy Associate Administrator for Planning at NASA Headquarters. Prior to the move, thousands gathered in Huntsville for a farewell event. In this photograph, Dr.Von Braun is shown seated next to Mrs. Von Braun as Senator John Sparkman reflects on Dr. Von Braun's career in Alabama.
