Dr. Von Braun began his association with Walt Disney
in the 1950s when the rocket scientist appeared on three Disney

The Saturn rockets that the Marshall Space Flight
Center developed for the Apollo program proved themselves over
and over. Here Dr. Von Braun, second from right, is pictured
in the blockhouse at Kennedy Space Center to witness the launch
of a Saturn I mission designated as SA-8. The photograph is
dated May 25, 1965, and among others includes Dr. Eberhard Rees,
right, and Dr. Rocco Petrone, lower foreground, who would each
later become Directors of the Marshall Space Flight Center.

Mobility Test Vehicle Demonstration (1966)
In this photograph dated June 1, 1966, Dr. Von Braun
is shown seated at the controls of a Mobility Test Vehicle.
The test was part of the concepts studies for developing a vehicle
that astronauts could operate on the moon. Eventually, the Marshall
Center developed the Lunar Roving Vehicle for that purpose,
a concept that differed widely in appearance from the Mobility
Test Vehicle. |

dated June 21, 1966. He is among those listening as Dr. Joseph
Randall, a laser expert at the Marshall Center, explains one
of the projects he is working on to a group composed of Federal
